Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to taking care of koi, as my dad has normally takes care of everything with the pond. About a month ago, we noticed one of our fish was getting swollen (she has dropsy, kidney failure due to a bacterial infection) one thing leads to another and I get to diagnose the pond with flukes. I (Skin flukes, I diagnosed them using a skin scraping and a microscope.) I've recently been helping with the pond a lot more than in recent years. I basically am helping to diagnose the fish and treat them. So, we naturally treat the pond with Prazipond, to get rid of the flukes. Our fish with dropsy is shown to be bleeding after we treated with Prazipond the first time, she lost some scales. I understand still wanting to treat the pond with anti-bacterials such as Melafix, but my dad also wants to treat the pond with a fungus treatment, which I absolutely disagree with.

Can anyone offer insight on where to go next?

Koi disease

Posted: 14 May 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Hello koi lovers,

I have a question about my fathers koi fish. Its a gray/blue koi, with orange tips at the fins. My father spotted some bumps on his lips a few weeks ago. I went over to check it out myself (I am not a koi expert at all) and the fish indeed had two bumps on either side of his lips. The bumps are pretty big and have the shape of a cauliflower. The bumps are a white/pink colour, with some red on it too. He first spotted the fish about 4 weeks ago, and no other fish has it.

I don't have a picture of the fish and its lip disease, because my father doesnt own a smartphone. I live pretty far away from him, so I cant take a photo myself. But does someone know what this disease is from reading my text?

Thanks in advance!
