Wen growth?

Posted: 04 Jan 2020 03:40 PM PST

Some of my goldfish babies look like this, I’ve never been sure (mumma fish kinda has the appearance), but do you reckon there’s some ryukin in the family?

Is my goldfish sick? He has what appears to be white growths over his eyes. And possible ich on him. Not sure. Please help! Thanks. 20 gal tank. Ph GH Nitrate levels all seem fine, will test again.

Odd swimming behaviour

Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:13 PM PST

I've notice one of my goldies has done this a couple of times, he will start zooming around the tank and start swimming against the gravel, rubbing his sides against it very quickly. I've looked it up and can't seem to get a definitive answer about what it means. Any insight would be helpful, thank you!

Help: What plastics in tubs are safe for fish?

Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:10 PM PST

I'm in Australia, and though I'm not affected by fires (yet!) I want to be prepared for leaving. The last animals to get emergency homes for are my fish, and I'm getting some battery powered air pumps and filters to go in the car, but I'm unsure what plastic tubs to get.

I need tubs with lids so the water doesn't end up everywhere, but I need to know what type of plastic is safe, so any help you can give would be fantastic! Thanks!

How big of a tank do I need for an Oranda?

Posted: 04 Jan 2020 05:34 PM PST

I'm looking to get a single Oranda to put in my bedroom, but I want to get a good sized tank that isn't too big but big enough for the little guy - what's the smallest I can get without causing it stress??

Did I just overstock my tank?? (29g, one 4" ranchu, one 3" ranchu and just added two medium-sized mystery snails)

I didn't even think about how the snails might add to the bioload because they're... snails. I totally blanked out.

It's a 29g/109L tank that varies between 68F-72F degrees (20C/22C) depending on whether we're running the heat in the house or not. I have two ranchu (one 4"/10cm, one 3"/7cm) in there with plans to upgrade to a 55g/208L when we move to a bigger house in two years. I do weekly 50% water changes. Lightly planted.

I read mystery snails are big poopers and now I'm pretty worried. They're relatively large snails, maybe 1.5"/3.8 cm each.

Should I take them back or am I overreacting as usual?

Would I be better off putting the snails in my 10g (with 2 platys)? Or would that be overstocking too?

Edit: I should clarify, these are not apple snails, I'm in the US and they're illegal here.

Edit#2: My upvotes aren't working for some reason. It's not affecting anything. Really sorry.

My goldfish has been constipated and unable to swim for six days now. He was upside down and wiggling around the sand recently then on Thursday night he flipped upright but hasn't been moving much. I believe he now has pop eye? Could it be a bacterial infection from the constipation? What do I do?
